Nurse Residency Program

2 nurses with paperwork 2The purpose of this program is to assist the new graduate RN or inexperienced RN to progress from novice to competent practice. The program will encompass one year of clinical/precepted employment which includes participating in patient care, planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation. Nurses who are accepted and approved by Summit Healthcare for participation in the Nurse Residency Program will experience training and orientation with experienced preceptors in multiple clinical settings over a one year period including: Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, Perioperative Services, Postoperative Services, Obstetrical Post Partum Unit, Medical Surgical Unit, Medical Surgical Telemetry Unit and interaction with multiple clinical disciplines.

Requirements for this program are as follows:

  1. Employees must maintain employment at Summit Healthcare in good standing.
  2. Agree to commit to Summit Healthcare working Full Time hours (36 hrs/wk or an equivalent of 3,744 hours after completion of the one year residency program.
  3. Agree that no prescheduled paid time off will be allowed for the first year of the residency.
