Hyperbaric Oxygen Can Help Nonhealing Wounds

Woundcare

Hyperbaric Oxygen for Nonhealing WoundsSometimes the body’s natural healing process isn’t enough. Summit Healthcare Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center offers a comprehensive outpatient program to diabetes complications, burns, and even spider bites. Seeing an unmet need in the community and an increase in chronic nonhealing wounds, Summit Healthcare began offering access to proven therapies that speed the healing process and deliver excellent clinical outcomes.

HYPERBARIC OXYGEN MAKES A DIFFERENCE NONHEALING WOUNDS

Our Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center houses two hyperbaric chambers. Summit Healthcare is the only rural hospital in northeastern Arizona to offer this service.

Breathing 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber increases the saturation of oxygen in the bloodstream because the lungs can work more effectively. Injured tissue needs more oxygen to heal. A higher concentration of oxygen in the blood results in a faster healing process for certain types of wounds.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe and evidence-based treatment that can help the body fight certain types of infections, improve circulation, stimulate growth of new blood vessels, and reduce swelling. It is used to treat crush injuries, osteomyelitis, late-stage radiation injury, and brown recluse spider bites.
