As we reach the midpoint of 2025, Summit Healthcare continues to strengthen its role as the cornerstone of healthcare for more than 90,000 residents across the White Mountains’ 3,000-square-mile region. Our unwavering mission centers on a simple yet powerful principle: ensuring our neighbors have access to quality medical care without the need to travel far from home.
This commitment has fueled five decades of steady growth, marked by substantial capital investments in state-of-the-art medical equipment and the continued recruitment of highly skilled specialists across multiple disciplines.
As the largest private-sector employer in the White Mountains, with more than 1,300 employees, Summit Healthcare’s impact extends beyond patient care to economic stability and community prosperity.
To lead us through the second half of 2025 and beyond, the Summit Healthcare Governing Board has appointed William “Billy” Gardner as interim Chief Executive Officer. Over the next several months, he will provide steady leadership during a comprehensive strategic planning process. Mr. Gardner brings over 25 years of healthcare experience and a deep understanding of our organization, having served in key leadership roles at Summit Healthcare since 2022, including Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Clinical Officer.
Summit Healthcare enters the coming years from a position of strength. In a rapidly changing healthcare landscape, particularly for rural hospitals facing increased financial pressures and evolving federal funding models, we remain committed to delivering and enhancing high-quality care while planning for long-term sustainability.
The Summit Healthcare Governing Board and Executive Leadership Team bring deep experience in navigating these complex policy and funding shifts. Their perspective and leadership position the organization to meet today’s challenges while safeguarding access to vital healthcare services throughout our region.
Together, the Board and leadership team are actively engaged in a strategic planning process focused on smart investments, innovative care models, and the long-term stability of both our healthcare system and the communities we serve.
Looking ahead, we remain grateful for the trust and support of our patients, staff, and regional partners. Together, we are building a future where Summit Healthcare continues to thrive; anchored in our values, strengthened by community, and trusted to deliver exceptional, compassionate care close to home.
