Thanks to the hard work of a dedicated nurse, inpatient dialysis services are now available to community members receiving care at Summit Healthcare.
“THE ADMINISTRATION SUPPORTED me and helped me build this program from the ground up,” says Troy Layden, R.N., Dialysis Program Manager at Summit Healthcare. “It’s great to be part of an organization that cares about the people in the community and wants them to receive quality service and care close to home.”
No More Long Trips
Before the new dialysis program, residents would have to go as far as Phoenix if they required dialysis while under hospital care. Now anyone within an hour’s drive of Summit Healthcare can save time and stay local.
“If you develop the need for dialysis while at Summit Healthcare, you don’t have to be airlifted off the mountain,” Troy says. “You can stay here, surrounded and supported by friends and family.”
A kidney specialist with Arizona Kidney Disease and Hypertension Centers can assess Summit Healthcare patients through video chat and telemedicine. If the patient requires dialysis, one of two portable dialysis machines can be wheeled directly to the patient’s room.
On average, Troy anticipates that two community members will benefit from the new dialysis services every week.
