More and more patients in remote locations are being served by telemedicine, which is the use of medical information exchanged from one site to another via electronic communications to improve a patient’s clinical health status. For example, Summit Healthcare offers telestroke services that allow a patient in our Emergency Department to be seen by a board-certified neurologist who can make a diagnosis and then deliver services through instructions to our emergency staff.
Summit Healthcare also works with telemedicine partners to provide neurology, concussion, nursery, radiology, and psychiatry services. Planning is underway for telemedicine burn services. We are also developing a pilot program to integrate primary care and behavioral health as part of a grant-funded partnership.
